The Incredible Superfood for Dogs

Meet the Superfood for Dogs: Kale

The idea for Dogs Love Kale began after the success of Twiggy’s Cupcakes (a line of gluten-free, high-protein, low in calories and sugar with no trans fat cupcakes created by Paula Savarese and Dawn Ward).

Both Dawn and Paula have always been fans of kale and they began to notice their dogs’ non-stop begging (you know that look!) whenever there was kale in their kitchen. With Dawn’s extensive experience and knowledge in the health and fitness industry, she and Paula set out to create healthy all-natural, gluten-free treats (with kale as the main ingredient) all canines could enjoy.

Our own dogs love kale

Kale – also known as leaf cabbage and a member of the broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower family (the cruciferous family of vegetables) – is packed with rich and nutritional value including:

  • Protein
  • Antioxidants (including beta-carotene, lutein, Vitamins A, C and E)
  • Vitamins B and K
  • Minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and more)

Kale’s Super Powers for K9s

Kale is a nutritious, super antioxidant (and low-calorie) vegetable with incredible health benefits for dogs. It offers a variety of natural, disease-preventing benefits; including:

  1. Vitamin K: Supports heart/cardiovascular and bone health; supports cancer and diabetes prevention
  2. Vitamin A: Supports skin/coat and eye health
  3. Vitamin C: Supports immune and joint health
  4. Keeps the body hydrated and increases overall metabolism
  5. Rich in naturally-occurring carotenoids (antioxidants) that help protect cells from free radicals (harmful and destructive by-products from cell metabolism)
  6. Rich in natural plant phytonutrients (also called phytochemicals) which help eliminate carcinogenic substances (potential toxic, cancer-producing agents)
  7. Rich in natural fiber (from the kale and flaxseed) which supports good digestive health

Feeding Kale to Your Dog

Depending on your dog and their preferences, kale can be fed:

  • Raw, lightly cooked or dried;
  • Chopped;
  • Blended; or
  • Mixed into their daily diet.

Or, as Dogs Love Kale has already done for you, baked into nutritious and healthy, wheat and grain-free treats (with no added sugar) that are guilt-free! Each of our products contains kale as the main ingredient along with a limited number of other 100% all-natural, USA ingredients to keep canine stomachs happy and full without an excess of empty calories that can lead to debilitating weight gain and health issues.
